Global Shapers Kuala Lumpur (GSKL) organised an Open Day to engage key stakeholders of Malaysian social ecosystem on 5 August 2017 in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. We've been around since 2011 and have been organising various community projects such as My First Job (career guidance for students), Better Streets (urban rejuvenation project) and After5 (personal development for Form 5 SPM leavers). Despite our presence, not many people know of our organisation, what more our mission. So, we decided to organise a day for our partners and prospective allies to meet and chat with us. The session was divided into two parts. The first was an introduction to GSKL by our Curator (Head) Dr Renard Siew followed by individual presentations by project leads. I presented on a project I initiated under GSKL called Shaper Series -- a series of public engagements focused on social impact and sustainable development. The second half was an "skills" auction by us Shapers. We auctioned off a musical performance, public speaking coaching and personal development mentoring. I 'auctioned' off my service for CSR project consultancy; and Brickfields Asia College (BAC) won the bid for RM100! Woohooh! All in all, it was a fun day, indeed. Thanks to our gracious sponsors Deliccia, Frontera and Uber.
BY THE WAY, if you didn't know, Global Shapers is a network of young influencers under the World Economic Forum (WEF). It is a network of city-based "Hubs" across the world. There's more than 400 Hubs consisting of 5,819 Global Shapers. As you might know, WEF is best known for their annual gathering of the world's leaders in government and business in Davos, Switzerland. As an international organisation, they are "committed to improve the state of the world" through public-private cooperation.
